Breaking His Heart

‘Cause when we are divided
I can hear Him crying
And I can’t be a part of breaking His heart
Anymore
I can’t do it anymore

I heard this song (words here) when I was in high school and it comes back to my mind when I think of divisions in the church, and how I can contribute to or help to stop them... it doesn't start with blaming others, it starts with what I do and how I really love my brothers and sisters in Christ.

When I first moved to California, and even before, I heard that there were too many churches in California and when there's a problem in one church, there's a split and another church forms. I was really sad to hear that... but now that I'm here, my view changed a bit.

I see that there are different purposes for the different churches. Having so many churches doesn't make them all bad and having one physical church is probably not as beneficial as I though.

Splits because of division in the churches is not good. God says something similar. I think he doesn't like division, but that doesn't mean that we all have to be one local church. First of all, because of distance... but also because people like to worship different ways and have different preferences for their leaders, etc. We need to strive for unity in His Body.

Lord, I don't want to be a part of breaking Your heart anymore. I don't want to stand by and not say anything about the divisions in the church. You're an amazing God. I know that and see that everyday. You love us tremendously. How can we, after knowing that, make divisions and have partiality in Your body? How can we stand by and not say anything against it? How can we stand by and let divisions happen or worse yet, see the divisions happen and not hope in You to reconcile those relationships and not know that You are the only one who can create change... change in people and situations. Help me to be a person who loves unity and brings people in Your Body together.

Please bring healing from divisions to Your Body. I see the effects of it on the people in Your Body and the leadership. I see so much devastation and loss of hope because of it. Please bring restoration to individuals and relationships and most importantly, to relationships with You.
